In a classical way, doors for aircraft can be built by using rolled and extruded products, offered by Alcan Aerospace. Rods are high technology products, used by aircraft manufacturers for the transmission of movement or stress. Whatever the final application (control rods, structure rods or torque rods), the most important required qualities are lightness and mechanical resistance. In addition to the standard solutions , Alcan Aerospace offers specific drawn tubes (2024, 7075, ...) with very smooth outside or inside aspect surface, and with high metallurgical performances which can stand very strong distortions.
Aluminium is being used for a lot of various "internal equipment" applications such as floor beams, seat tracks, seat frames, cockpit window frames, fittings, local reinforcings or supporting structures. A complete range of extruded (profils, shapes, bars, tubes) and drawn tubes (round, square, rectangular,..) and rolled products, with high properties and performances, meets the requirements of these applications. Aluminium can be used for some cold parts of the propulsion. Alcan Aerospace is the leader on the engine equipment casings such as power transmission and oil running. SFU is specialized in complex internal engine casings with integrated pipes and tanks. A well known ability enables SFU to deliver CFM 56, TRENT, BR700, GE90 programmes, products such as accessory gearboxes, lubricating modules and oil tanks.

fuselage of commercial aircraft consists of a skin, with longitudinal stiffeners (stringers) and regularly-spaced frames in the circumferential direction. An important design driver is damage tolerance of the structure, associated for example with the tensile stresses introduced in the skin by the pressurization cycle. However, other load cases lead to other requirements, such as stability in compression of the lower part of the fuselage. Moreover, cost reduction is also in the forefront of airframe manufacturers minds, leading to a technological "pull" towards welded structures as opposed to riveted ones. Alcan Aerospace is very active in the field of fuselage, proposing several new alloys/solutions : 2024-HF (for High Formability) bringing higher degree of sheet formability, thus allowing to by-pass some of the expensive stretching / thermal treatment sequences.
